Sylenth1 is one of my most used and favorite plugins to use. Unlike the other plugin reviews I have done on this website, which are effect plugins, Sylenth is a virtual analog VSTi synthesizer. In other words, this is a plugin that offers you endless sounds to use. Like all synthesizer plugins, it is simply a traditional and physical synthesizer keyboard that is rebuilt and tailored for digital music production. Sylenth is two sided with two identical envelopes. Each sound uses side A, side B, or a blend of both. Here are some of the specs. Although this is a rather complex piece of software, there are only four basic components: Oscillators, Filters, Modulation, and Master FX. I’ll briefly go over each one now. This software can also be used for sound design, which is another world of music. Whether designing sounds from scratch or adjusting pre-made sounds, the oscillators are what determine the type of waveform the sound will have. Each type of waveform has a different shape that will be assumed, producing different sounds. Sylenth has a total of four oscillators that are capable of producing up to eight voices. This means that you could have thirty-two voices in one note.

As for the filters, there are two filter sections with four filter stages, offering you a wide range of possibility. These filter stages have nonlinear saturation that adds warmth to your sound. Sylenth has various ways to approach modulation. There are two ADSR envelopes and two LFO’s which can be used in many ways. Lastly, there is the master section for the finishing touches on your sound. This section includes an arpeggiator, distortion, compression, EQ, reverb, phaser, chorus/flanger, and delay. Although it can be fun to design your own sounds with a plugin like this, it is common to download or purchase preset packs that can be thrown directly into the software. More times than not, this is what I do when using Slylenth. This is only a basic description of this professional quality synthesizer. Click here to learn more about Sylenth!
